Q. How do I become a member of the SOS organization?
R. You are automatically a member when your significant other is a student or faculty member.
Q. Can I be a member if I am not on the island?
R. Yes. You will receive, by email, minutes of meetings and other items of interest to you. When you visit the island you are welcome at any or all activities.
Q. Who can join SOS?
R. You are automatically a member if you are the significant other, child or loved one of SUSOM students and faculty.
Q. Is the SOS sponsored by SUSOM?
R. Yes. The SOS is recognized as an official SUSOM campus organization under the Student Government Association (SGA).
Q. How often does the SOS meet?
R. A general meeting is held monthly in the park in Windwardside on a Saturday morning. The officers meet month prior to the general meeting.
Q. What does SOS do?
R. Besides offering support to members, SOS provides activities for children as well as adults. Thanksgiving dinner, Easter Egg Hunt, Welcome and Farewell parties are some of the activities
Q. What activities are there for children?
R. Park days are held several days per week. This provides time for the children and the parents to interact with others.
Q. Do I have to be a member of SOS to participate in SOS sponsored activities?
R. Yes and No. There are activities open to everyone and others are SOS members only. Most activities are open to SOS members and/or their families.
Q. Can SOS help me obtain employment?
R. No. Most jobs are filled by island people. However members are free to share information regarding possible positions on an individual basis.
Q. Are there churches on Saba?
R. Yes. There are several churches on Saba including Anglican, Roman Catholic, Wesleyan Holiness, Seventh Day Adventist, and Jehovah Witness. Student organized services which include Mormon, Muslim, non denominational Christian are also held. There may be other services available as well.
Q. Can I purchase a crib on Saba for my baby?
R. Yes. Cribs can be ordered by the G&C store in Windwardside and can be waiting for you when you arrive on island if you wish. One family ordered theirs which included a mattress and will convert to a toddler bed. Sometimes leaving students may have a crib for sale.
Q. Who can I ask for advice?
R. Before you arrive on island click on the contact us link and someone will get back to you. When you are on island any SOS member will be glad to help answer any questions or direct you to the proper person.
